Ingredients
Scale
Meat & Cheese
- 1 lb ground beef
- ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup shredded provolone cheese
Vegetables
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
Others
- 2 tbsp olive oil, divided
- 4 hamburger buns
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- Caramelize the Onions & Peppers: Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and green bell peppers, season with salt and black pepper, and cook, stirring occasionally, until soft and caramelized, about 8-10 minutes. Remove them from the skillet and set aside.
- Make the Patties: In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently to incorporate the seasonings without overworking the meat. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a patty roughly the size of the hamburger buns.
- Cook the Patties: Heat the remaining 1 tbsp olive oil in the same skillet over medium-high heat. Place the patties in the skillet and cook for about 5 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. Use a spatula to flip carefully to retain their shape and juiciness.
- Melt the Cheese: During the last minute of cooking, evenly sprinkle a blend of shredded mozzarella and provolone cheese over each patty. Cover the skillet with a lid to trap the heat and allow the cheese to melt perfectly.
- Toast the Buns: While the cheese melts, lightly toast the hamburger buns either in a toaster, on a grill, or in a dry pan to add texture and prevent sogginess.
- Assemble the Burgers: Place each cheeseburger patty onto a toasted bun bottom. Top generously with the caramelized onions and bell peppers. Cap with the top bun.
- Serve & Enjoy: Serve the Philly Cheese Steak Burgers hot with your favorite sides and enjoy the rich blend of flavors.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a dash of hot sauce or mustard to the patties before cooking.
- Use fresh, good-quality ground beef with about 20% fat for juicier burgers.
- To keep the caramelized vegetables warm, cover them while finishing the other steps.
- Cheese melt can be enhanced by covering the skillet; don’t skip this step for the best gooey texture.
- Customize with sautéed mushrooms or different cheese blends if desired.
