Ingredients
Scale
Sliders
- 12 slider buns or Hawaiian rolls, sliced in half
- 6 slices deli ham
- 6 slices deli turkey
- 6 slices Swiss cheese
Custard & Topping
- 4 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
- Optional: raspberry jam for serving
Instructions
- Prepare the sliders base: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a baking dish and arrange the bottom halves of the slider buns in the dish. In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise and Dijon mustard, then spread this mixture evenly over the bottom buns. Layer each bun with a slice of ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese, then place the top halves of the buns on top to assemble.
- Make and pour custard: In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until smooth. Pour this egg mixture evenly over the assembled sliders, pressing down gently on the buns to help them absorb the liquid evenly.
- Bake covered: Cover the baking dish with foil and bake the sliders for 20 minutes. This ensures the custard cooks through and the cheeses melt nicely while keeping moisture inside.
- Finish baking uncovered: Remove the foil from the dish, brush the tops of the sliders with melted butter, and continue baking uncovered for about 10 minutes. Bake until the tops are golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and melted.
- Serve: Allow the sliders to cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar. Serve warm with raspberry jam on the side for dipping if desired, enhancing the sweet and savory flavor combination.
Notes
- Prepare the sliders a day ahead and refrigerate overnight to save time on serving day.
- For a crispier bottom crust, bake the sliders in a cast-iron skillet or on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Use Hawaiian rolls for a sweeter flavor that complements the sandwich toppings.
- Raspberry jam is optional but highly recommended for authentic Monte Cristo flavor contrast.
