Ingredients
Scale
Chicken Filling
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cooked and shredded
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons honey
- Juice and zest of 1 lime
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)
Wonton Shells
- 12 square wonton wrappers
- Cooking spray or oil for brushing
Toppings & Sauce
- 1 cup shredded cabbage or coleslaw mix
- 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
- 2 tablespoons sliced green onions
- 1/4 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
- 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon sriracha (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Wonton Shells: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Spray a muffin tin with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Shape and Bake Wonton Tacos: Press each wonton wrapper gently into a muffin cup to form a taco shell shape. Brush or spray the wrappers with oil to help them crisp evenly. Bake in the oven for 7 to 9 minutes until they are golden brown and crispy. Remove from oven and let cool.
- Cook the Chicken Filling: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the shredded cooked chicken along with honey, lime juice and zest, soy sauce, garlic powder, and chili flakes if using. Stir well to combine all ingredients and cook for about 3 to 4 minutes until heated through and flavors meld.
- Prepare the Creamy Sauce: In a small bowl, combine sour cream (or Greek yogurt), mayonnaise, and sriracha for a creamy, spicy drizzle. Mix until smooth and set aside.
- Assemble the Tacos: Fill each baked wonton shell with a spoonful of honey lime chicken. Add a small pinch of shredded cabbage or coleslaw mix for crunch, then top with chopped cilantro, sliced green onions, and drizzle with the prepared creamy sauce.
- Serve and Enjoy: Serve the tacos immediately to enjoy the contrast of the warm, flavorful chicken with the crispy wonton shells and fresh toppings.
Notes
- For best results, use cooked chicken that is shredded finely to ensure even coating with the sauce.
- Wonton shells burn easily; keep a close eye while baking to achieve perfect crispiness without over-browning.
- Sriracha can be omitted or adjusted based on preferred spice level.
- These tacos are best enjoyed fresh to retain the crisp texture of the wonton shells.
- Try swapping cabbage for shredded carrots or radish for different textures and colors.
