Description

These classic Garlic Knots with Homemade Garlic Butter Sauce are a delicious Italian-American appetizer made from soft pizza dough, tied into knots, and baked until golden. Brushed with a fragrant garlic butter mixture and sprinkled with Parmesan cheese, they’re perfect for serving warm as a tasty starter or snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Garlic Knots

  • 1 pound pizza dough (homemade or store-bought)

Garlic Butter Sauce

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Topping

  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
  2. Prepare the dough: Lightly flour a clean surface and roll out the pizza dough to about a 1/2-inch thick rectangle. Use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to slice the dough into 12 even strips.
  3. Form the knots: Take each strip and tie it into a knot, carefully pinching the ends to secure. Arrange the knots evenly spaced on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Bake the knots: Place the baking sheet into the preheated oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the knots are puffed up and golden brown.
  5. Make the garlic butter sauce: While the knots bake, melt the unsalted butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 to 2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to brown the garlic. Remove from heat and stir in salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes if using, and chopped fresh parsley.
  6. Brush knots with sauce: When the knots come out of the oven, immediately brush them generously with the warm garlic butter sauce to infuse them with flavor.
  7. Add Parmesan cheese: Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the coated knots while still warm, allowing it to lightly melt onto the surface.
  8. Serve: Serve the garlic knots warm as a perfect appetizer. Optionally, pair them with marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Best enjoyed fresh out of the oven for optimal softness and flavor.
  • To reheat, warm in the oven at 350°F for 5 to 7 minutes to regain crispness.
  • Marinara sauce makes an excellent dip to complement these garlic knots.
