Ingredients
Scale
Fruits
- 4 ripe pears (e.g., Bosc or Anjou)
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice (to prevent browning)
Cheese Filling
- 1/2 cup (120g) blue cheese, crumbled
- 1/4 cup (60g) cream cheese, softened
- 2 tablespoons honey
Garnish
- 1/4 cup (30g) toasted walnuts or pecans, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh chives, finely chopped (optional)
- Additional honey for drizzling
Instructions
- Prepare the Pears: Wash and dry the pears thoroughly. Slice each pear in half lengthwise to create two even halves.
- Scoop Out the Core: Use a melon baller or spoon to carefully scoop out the core and some of the flesh, creating a hollow cavity for the filling. Brush the exposed flesh lightly with lemon juice to prevent browning.
- Make the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the crumbled blue cheese, softened cream cheese, and honey. Stir until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
- Stuff the Pears: Spoon the cheese mixture into each hollowed pear half, filling them generously but neatly.
- Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle the toasted nuts over the stuffed pears, drizzle a little extra honey on top for sweetness, and garnish with optional fresh chives for a pop of color and flavor. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Choose ripe but firm pears to hold the filling well without becoming mushy.
- Blue cheese can be substituted with gorgonzola or stilton for variation.
- For a nut-free version, omit the nuts or substitute with seeds like pumpkin seeds.
- This appetizer can be prepared ahead of time but add nuts and honey just before serving to maintain crunch and freshness.
- Lemon juice not only prevents browning but adds a little brightness to the pears.
