Ingredients
Scale
Meat
- 2 cups diced Chicken Ham (substitute with fresh ham if preferred)
Vegetables
- 4 cups chopped Cabbage (green cabbage works best)
Dairy & Cheese
- 1 cup Cottage Cheese (blend until smooth)
- 1 cup shredded Cheese (e.g., cheddar, low-sodium preferred)
Condiments & Spices
- 2 tablespoons Dijon Mustard (adds tanginess)
- 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder (fresh garlic isn’t recommended)
Instructions
- Prepare the Ingredients: Dice the chicken ham and chop the cabbage into bite-sized pieces to have them ready for cooking.
- Brown the Ham: Heat a large 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Add the diced ham and cook until it is browned and slightly crispy, about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Sauté the Cabbage: Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet with the ham. Sauté for 5 to 7 minutes until the cabbage is tender and has a bright green color, stirring frequently to cook evenly.
- Blend the Sauce: In a separate bowl, blend the cottage cheese, Dijon mustard, and garlic powder until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Combine Sauce with Skillet: Pour the blended cottage cheese mixture into the skillet. Stir well to evenly coat the ham and cabbage with the creamy sauce.
- Add Cheese and Melt: Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the top of the skillet mixture. Cover the skillet with a lid and let it cook for 2 to 3 minutes, or until the cheese melts completely.
- Serve: Remove from heat and dish the creamy Chicken Ham Cabbage Skillet onto plates. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired and serve immediately while hot.
Notes
- You can substitute fresh ham for chicken ham if preferred.
- Green cabbage is recommended for its flavor and texture, but you may also try savoy or napa cabbage.
- Use low-sodium cheese and ham to reduce the salt content.
- Fresh garlic is not recommended as it may overpower the dish; garlic powder provides a milder flavor.
- Serve with a side of crusty bread or a light salad for a complete meal.
