Description

These Cream Cheese Sugar Cookies are soft, tender, and buttery with a subtle tang from cream cheese. Perfectly sweetened and decorated with colorful sprinkles and frosting, they make a delightful treat for holidays, celebrations, or any occasion where you want a delicious, homemade cookie.

Ingredients

Scale

Cookie Dough

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Decoration

  • Sprinkles, as desired
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Royal icing or buttercream frosting, for decorating

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats to ensure cookies don’t stick.
  2. Cream Butter and Cream Cheese: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and cream cheese together until smooth and creamy using a hand mixer or stand mixer.
  3. Add Sugar, Egg, and Vanilla: Gradually add the granulated sugar and continue to mix until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  4. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Mix Dry with Wet: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing on low speed until a soft dough forms. Avoid overmixing to keep cookies tender.
  6. Shape Cookies: Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, scoop dough balls onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Flatten each dough ball slightly with the palm of your hand or the bottom of a glass.
  7. Add Sprinkles: Press sprinkles gently onto the top of each cookie if desired.
  8. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until edges are lightly golden and centers are set.
  9. Cool: Remove cookies from oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  10. Decorate: Once fully cooled, dust with powdered sugar or decorate with royal icing or buttercream frosting as desired.
