Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 4 large flour tortillas
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup pickles, sliced
- 1/2 cup shredded lettuce
- 1/4 cup diced tomatoes (optional)
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
Animal Style Sauce
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard
- 1 tbsp sweet pickle relish
- 1 tsp white vinegar
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Caramelize Onions: In a skillet over medium heat, heat the vegetable oil and add the finely chopped onions. Cook them slowly, stirring occasionally, until they turn golden brown and caramelized, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.
- Cook Ground Beef: Using the same skillet, add the ground beef and cook over medium heat until browned and fully cooked through, breaking it apart with a spatula. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Prepare Animal Style Sauce: In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, yellow mustard, sweet pickle relish, white vinegar, and salt and pepper. Stir until smooth and well blended.
- Warm Tortillas: Heat the flour tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave for a short time until they are warm and pliable, making them easier to roll.
- Assemble Burritos: On each tortilla, layer cooked ground beef, caramelized onions, one slice of cheddar cheese, sliced pickles, shredded lettuce, and diced tomatoes if using. Drizzle generously with the Animal Style sauce.
- Roll Burritos: Fold the sides of the tortilla inwards and then roll tightly to enclose all the fillings, forming a burrito shape.
- Optional Toasting: Place the assembled burritos seam side down on a skillet and toast over medium heat for 2-3 minutes per side until the tortillas are golden brown and the cheese inside is melted.
- Serve: Serve the cheeseburger burritos warm with extra Animal Style sauce on the side for dipping.
Notes
- You can omit the diced tomatoes if you prefer a less juicy filling.
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of garlic powder or smoked paprika to the ground beef while cooking.
- To make the dish gluten-free, substitute the flour tortillas with gluten-free tortillas.
- Leftover burritos can be wrapped tightly and refrigerated for up to 2 days; reheat in a skillet or microwave before serving.
- Feel free to customize with additional toppings like jalapeños or sautéed mushrooms.
