These Bite-Sized Pepperoni & Sausage Pizza Puffs are perfect bite-sized appetizers combining classic pizza flavors with a fluffy, savory batter. Loaded with mozzarella cheese, mini pepperoni slices, and crumbled Italian sausage, they’re baked to golden perfection and served with a side of pizza sauce for dipping. Ideal for parties, snacks, or a fun appetizer, these pizza puffs are easy to make and sure to please kids and adults alike.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 large egg
  • ¾ cup whole milk

Cheeses & Meats

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup mini pepperoni slices
  • ½ cup cooked and crumbled Italian sausage
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Optional

  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil (optional)
  • Pizza sauce for dipping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a mini muffin tin to prepare for baking.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and salt until evenly combined.
  3. Combine wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk the egg and whole milk until fully blended and smooth.
  4. Make the batter: Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined to avoid overmixing, which keeps the puffs light and fluffy.
  5. Add cheese and meats: Fold in the shredded mozzarella, mini pepperoni slices, cooked and crumbled Italian sausage, and grated Parmesan cheese evenly throughout the batter. Add chopped fresh basil if using.
  6. Fill the muffin tin: Spoon the batter evenly into each cup of the prepared mini muffin tin, filling about ¾ full to allow room for rising during baking.
  7. Bake: Place the muffin tin in the preheated oven and bake for 18–20 minutes or until the tops turn golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Cool and serve: Allow the pizza puffs to cool for 5 minutes in the tin before carefully removing them. Serve warm with pizza sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • You can substitute turkey sausage for a lighter meat option.
  • These pizza puffs freeze well when made ahead; reheat them in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 8–10 minutes until warmed through.
  • For added freshness, sprinkle chopped fresh basil on top just before serving.
  • Ensure not to overmix the batter to keep the puffs tender.
