Scale
Sandwiches
- 4 hoagie rolls, sliced lengthwise (but not all the way through)
- 8 slices provolone cheese
- 1/4 pound sliced deli ham
- 1/4 pound sliced salami
- 1/4 pound sliced pepperoni
- 1/4 pound sliced turkey or mortadella (optional)
Grinder Spread
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Salad Topping
- 1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
- 1 medium tomato, thinly sliced
- 1/4 small red onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup banana peppers, drained
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Optional
- 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the sandwiches.
- Make Grinder Spread: In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, red wine vinegar, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder. Mix thoroughly to create a flavorful grinder spread.
- Prepare Rolls: Open the hoagie rolls and lay them flat on a baking sheet. Spread the grinder mayo mixture on both sides of each roll to infuse flavor.
- Layer Ingredients: On each roll, place 2 slices of provolone cheese, then layer with ham, salami, pepperoni, and turkey or mortadella if using.
- Bake Sandwiches: Place the sandwiches open-faced in the preheated oven. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the meats are warmed through and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Prepare Salad Topping: While the sandwiches bake, toss shredded lettuce, tomato slices, red onion, and banana peppers with olive oil, salt, and pepper in a mixing bowl for a fresh topping.
- Assemble Final Sandwich: Remove sandwiches from oven. Top each sandwich with the prepared salad mixture and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese if desired. Close the sandwiches and serve warm.
Notes
- Customize your sandwiches with your favorite deli meats or cheeses for variety.
- For extra crispy sandwiches, wrap them in foil and press slightly while baking.
- Leftover sandwiches can be reheated in the oven to retain a crisp texture.
