Description

This Amish Country Casserole is a hearty and comforting dish featuring ground beef, egg noodles, and a creamy blend of mushroom and chicken soups. Topped with melted cheddar cheese and baked to perfection, it’s an easy family dinner that’s budget-friendly and full of flavor.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cups egg noodles (uncooked)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it reaches the ideal baking temperature while you prepare the casserole.
  2. Cook Beef and Onion: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and diced onion until the beef is browned and the onion softens. Drain any excess fat to keep the casserole from becoming greasy.
  3. Boil Noodles: Meanwhile, bring a pot of salted water to a boil and cook the egg noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain the noodles well to avoid excess moisture in the casserole.
  4. Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, mix the cooked beef and onions with the cream of mushroom soup, cream of chicken soup, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir in the cooked noodles until everything is evenly combined.
  5. Assemble Casserole: Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and transfer the noodle and beef mixture into it. Spread it out evenly for consistent baking.
  6. Add Cheese Topping: Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top of the casserole.
  7. Bake Covered: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. This allows flavors to meld and the casserole to heat through.
  8. Bake Uncovered: Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden.
  9. Garnish and Serve: Once baked, optionally garnish with chopped fresh parsley for a pop of color and freshness. Serve the casserole hot for a satisfying meal.

Notes

  • Substitute ground turkey or chicken for the ground beef to lighten the dish.
  • Add a pinch of smoked paprika or a handful of frozen peas to the mix before baking for extra flavor and texture.
